Carlos Encinas began his studies in biological sciences in 2002 at Universidad Mayor de San Andrés, Bolivia, and was awarded his Bachelor’s degree in 2009, with a major in molecular biology and genetics. In 2008, he was awarded an honors degree for his academic performance by the Faculty of Pure and Natural Sciences. He began his research career within the Institute de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD France) studying tropical diseases in pregnant women and infants using molecular biology techniques. In 2007, he joined the Assisted Reproduction Unit at EMBRIOVID in La Paz, Bolivia. His present position is head of the andrology laboratory and assisted reproduction technology laboratory at EMBRIOVID. He is a board member of the Bolivian Society of Human Genetics. He is currently member of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology. His research interests include various aspects of embryology, infertility epidemiology, new technology implementation for increasing success rates in IVF programs, and also human reproductive biology at high altitude.
