The need to reduce the incidence of multiple births has become a priority it the field of assisted reproduction technologies. From the laboratory perspective in an in vitro fertilization program, it is feasible to implement an elective single embryo transfer program based on morphological parameters (non-invasive technique). A judicious algorithm that selects the “best” embryo, i.e. with the highest implantation potential will increase the likelihood of having a healthy singleton. This embryocentric approach will allow to obtain similar chances of pregnancy in a fresh transfer cycle plus a frozen embryo transfer cycle in comparison to a double embryo transfer. The immediate consequence is an indisputable decrease of the multiple birth rate. This hot topic was discussed among all professionals in the field of reproductive medicine at the Regional Congress of the Latin American Network of Assisted Reproduction (RED LARA) and the Chilean Society of Reproductive Medicine (SOCMER) in Santiago-Chile on the 30th-31st of August.
