The 'Sexually Transmitted Infections: An Evidence-Based Online Course' organised by the Geneva Foundation for Medical Education and Research and the World Health Organization officially commenced on Wednesday, 21 October 2026. An introductory session was held via Zoom on 22 October to mark the start of the course, bringing together coaches, participants, course coordinators, resource persons and course organisers. The session recorded a peak attendance of 63 participants.
The participants were introduced to the course content and structure. Dr Antonio Gerbase (GFMER), one of the course coordinators, warmly welcomed the participants in his welcome address, as did Dr Remco Peters (WHO), one of the course contributors. Their remarks set a positive tone for the training, emphasising the importance of collaboration and knowledge sharing in strengthening the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and control of STIs.
The session gave participants and the course team the chance to get to know each other, mark the start of their learning journey and prepare for the training activities ahead.
We look forward to an engaging and productive course that will enhance knowledge, build capacity and support improved STI service delivery.
