Born in March 21, 1982, Araya attained his elementary and high school Education in his home town Mekelle, Ethiopia. After completing his high school with a very great distinction, He joined Haramaya University (http://www.haramaya.edu.et/) in Ethiopia and graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health.

Araya began his professional career in teaching and research at the department of public health of Mekelle University (http://www.mu.edu.et/), Ethiopia. While working for Mekelle University, from 2006 to 2007, Araya did his MPH (with a reproductive health specialty) at the Addis Ababa University (http://www.aau.edu.et/), Ethiopia. In 2010, Araya got a scholarship and pursued his PhD study at Maastricht University (http://www.maastrichtuniversity.nl/), the Netherlands and University of Alcalá (http://www.uah.es/), Madrid, Spain. Araya successfully finished his study and obtained the degree of Doctor from both Universities on July 2nd, 2014.

Araya is a life-time learner and is highly passionate in education, research and leadership. So far, professionally he has been mainly involved in teaching, research and consultancy services. He has been giving lectures on reproductive health and research methods related courses to post graduate students at Mekelle University and other universities in Ethiopia. Besides, he has been involved in national and international research projects.

In foreseeable future, Araya aspires to become a research leader for interdisciplinary researches that involves reproductive health, maternal, neonatal, child, and adolescent health (RMNCAH), health care innovations, and health systems. Currently, in addition to his position at Mekelle University, Araya is serving as a member of the research advisory council for RMNCAH of the Federal Ministry of Health of Ethiopia.
