Dr L Troy Cunningham is a public health specialist from India working in various areas of the sexual and reproductive health within India. He has been involved in the implementation of prevention, care and support, including the prevention of the parent to child transmission issues in the areas of HIV, maternal, newborn and child health. Currently, he is a Deputy Project Director (Quality Improvement) of a project in Karnataka, India, funded by Bill & Belinda Gates Foundation, with the objective of improving the maternal, newborn and child health outcomes in the poorly performing districts through technical support to the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), Karnataka. Within this project, he is the technical lead for implementing facility based interventions and has been involved in the building and mentoring a team of Zonal, District Health Specialists and Nurse Mentors towards effective onsite mentoring to improve the quality of delivery and postpartum care in primary health centres of North Karnataka. In the past, he was involved in various capacities in the implementation and management of major HIV prevention, care and support projects funded by NACO, Global fund, EGPAF and USAID.
Dr L Troy Cunningham has completed his MBBS and Advanced Diploma in Public Health Administration from South India after which he has worked with a national level NGO in the area of HIV.
In India, Dr L Troy Cunningham has contributed to several state and national level consultations and has been part of the national technical review team for the children infected [and affected by HIV policy guidelines development. He has worked with UNICEF and NACO to develop a basic and advanced package for child counselling skill building and is a master trainer. He has developed and contributed to numerous training manuals and presented in many conferences at national and international level.
