Meeting with the course participants at the University of Parma

As part of its partnership with the University of Parma, the Geneva Foundation for Medical Education and Research 8GFMER) provides its online course: “From Research to Practice: Training Course in Sexual and Reproductive Health Research” to the Masters program students of the University of Parma.
The University of Parma provides a Masters program on International Health and Medicine for doctors from developing countries, mainly Africa. This program is designed to respond to the needs of medical doctors who provide health care in difficult circumstances and with limited resources. Within this program the participants acquire up-to-date skills and knowledge in health facility management as well as clinical procedures.
GFMER provides a distance training / online course on research in sexual and reproductive health. With this course the Foundation provides a cadre of health practitioners with knowledge, skills and competencies in sexual and reproductive health as well as research in this field. The program is designed to address a wider range of contemporary reproductive and sexual health problems, especially in developing countries.
From 24 to 25 July 2012, a two-day meeting was planned between Karim Abawi, the GFMER training coordinator, and the organizers of the Masters program of the University of Parma and the students of this program, who are also the participants of the GFMER training course on sexual and reproductive health research.
The first day was planned for an open discussion between Karim Abawi and the participants of the online course. The aim was to answer the participants’ questions and give them practical instructions in-order to facilitate their learning process. In sum the participants expressed their satisfaction from the course and its importance for health professionals.
The second day was planned for a lecture on research protocol development, which was animated by active participation and interaction of the participants.
Moreover several meetings were planned with the organizers of the Parma University Masters program, Professor Leopoldo Sarli, Chief of University Centre for International Cooperation and Laura Amore, the coordinator of the Masters program, during which the partnership between the University of Parma and the GFMER was discussed. Both sides expressed their satisfaction for this complementary approach and highlighted the necessity of further collaboration.
