The Oxford University Maternal and Perinatal Health Institute (OMPHI), in collaboration with Geneva Foundation for Medical Education and Research (GFMER), and Community Health and Research Initiative, Nigeria held a oneday free training course on The Evidence- based Management of Pre-eclampsia and Eclampsia for health professionals in Sokoto State Nigeria, West Africa on 10th December 2011.
The course was developed as an e-learning Module by the Nuffield Department of Women’s & Reproductive Health, University of Oxford and funded by the MacArthur Foundation through EngenderHealth.
In the morning, 35 health professionals comprising of medical doctors (consultants and registrars in O & G, and public health personnel), nurses, nurse/midwives and medical students gathered at the Rainbow Computer Institute located at Nigeria Agricultural Co-operative Rural Development Bank (NACROB) complex, Western bye pass Sokoto to take the computer based course lasting 3-4 hours. Afterwards they responded to 20 multiple choice questions based on the course.
Later, 34 of the health professionals were presented with certificates jointly signed by the Nuffield Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology of the University of Oxford, GFMER and Community Health and Research Initiative Nigeria in a mini ceremony held at the Sokoto Guest Inn. The certificates were graciously handed out to participants by the Chief Medical Director of the State Specialist Hospital, Dr. Muhammed Namadina.
