Dr Olufunke Margaret Ebuehi is a Senior Lecturer/Consultant Public Health Physician and Medical Biochemist in the Reproductive and International Health Unit of the Department of Community Health and Primary Care, College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Lagos, Nigeria.

I joined the services of the College of Medicine of the University of Lagos in January 2001, following undergraduate and postgraduate training in Biochemistry and Medicine, initially as a Lecturer in Clinical Biochemistry until 2004, when I transferred my services to undertake a career in Public Health in the Department of Community Health and Primary care of the same University.

My areas of specialization are Reproductive Health, Child health, Primary Health Care system, Population studies and Medical Education. My goal is to utilize my training and experience in public health to facilitate the creation of an enabling environment for sustainable health improvements (particularly reproductive health) in Nigeria.

My key skills are:

  • Training and capacity building
  • Health and population analysis
  • Health programme development, monitoring and evaluation
  • Proficient in Microsoft office applications EPI INFO and SPSS statistical packages
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills

As a teacher, I’m involved in the training of undergraduate and postgraduate medical and other allied health professions. I also supervise an annual community diagnosis and community health intervention projects with my undergraduate and postgraduate students.

As a consultant Public Health Physician, I have participated in several consultancy projects some of which include: assessing the uptake of family planning services in Northern Nigeria, Integration of Reproductive health services with HIV services, assessment of Public Sector World bank/ LSACA funded HIV/AIDS response activities, assessment of the human resource for health situation in Lagos state, impact of the Avian Influenza response in Nigeria amongst others. I undertake clinical consultation in the reproductive health and child welfare clinics of the Department of Community Health and Primary Care of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos.

As a researcher, I have conducted research in the areas of reproductive health, child health, medical education, health systems research, HIV/AIDS and Nutrition.

I am currently the Chairperson of the Postgraduate Committee of the Department of Community Health and Primary care, College of Medicine, university of Lagos.
