Paul Faduola uses a Hamilton Thorn laser to perform laser assisted hatching at the Nordica Fertility Centre in Lagos, Nigeria. The laser beam creates an elevated temperature that dissolves the zona pellucida causing ablation. Failed implantation in older women has been attributed in some cases, to the inability of the embryo to hatch out of this zona. Removing the zona could improve the chances for implantation.
