Throwing it back to August when I facilitated a session on “Family Planning as a Tool for Sustainable Development” for media professionals in Lagos state.
- SDG 1 (No Poverty): Family planning reduces poverty by allowing families have fewer children that they can take care of with the resources available.
- SDG 3 (Good Health and Wellbeing): Family planning leads to improved health and wellbeing by reducing unplanned pregnancies and maternal mortality.
- SDG 4 (Quality Education): Family planning allows women pursue their education and career goals as they won’t have to drop out of school or pause their careers due to unplanned pregnancies.
These are just three ways by which family planning is connected with the SDGs. The media has a strong role to play in curbing myths and misconceptions surrounding family planning.
