Paulina was born on 18th November, 1958 at Anum-Boso in the Eastern region of Ghana. She obtained a certificate in GCE ‘O’ level which paved the way for her to study general nursing, graduating from Agogo Presbyterian Nursing and Midwifery College as a State Registered Nurse in 1984; as a State Registered Midwife in 1987 from the Komfo Anokye Midwifery Training college and later as a State Registered Public Health Nurse from Korle-bu Public Health Nursing school in 1993. She is licensed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana.

Paulina received sponsorship from the Netherlands Government to be trained in District health care at the Royal Tropical Institute, Amsterdam in 1995. She has further received training in HIV/ AIDS counselling, Home based care, leadership and community mobilisation. The sponsorship offered her an opportunity to give a presentation at the XII HIV/AIDS Conference in Durban South Africa in July 2000. Paulina has a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health, with a specialisation in Health Education from the Catholic University College of Ghana in Sunyani.

Paulina has worked for over 30 years, serving patients of all categories at the St. Peter’s Catholic Hospital and its environs specifically Amansie West, East and Central beginning from 1984 to date. Currently she is the Nurse Manager and as such part of the senior management team, directly overseeing the nursing, midwifery and reproductive health departments at the St. Peter’s Catholic Hospital, Jacobu. She is involved in family planning, reproductive and child health activities, coordinating health outreaches; monitoring, supervising, directing and budgeting. She is also a member of the purchasing committee involved in prioritising both consumable as well as non-consumable items and equipment to be purchased for the hospital.

Throughout Paulina’s work experience, she has had the opportunity to work with sexual and reproductive health clients especially People Living with HIV/ AIDS, PLWHA. Her interactions have given her enough experience in sexual and reproductive health issues.

As a health educator, Paulina Priscilla Opei is involved in promoting sexual and reproductive health to individuals, families, and churches especially the youth. She offers education on and provides family planning services to women in their fertile age. In addition, she is involved in immunization of children under five years especially against the childhood killer diseases. Her duties as a Public Health Nurse also involves identifying and controlling or preventing epidemic diseases such as Buruli Ulcer, EBOLA, and Cholera among others. Paulina’s efforts and contributions to healthcare gained her the national recognition as an MTN Heroine of change in season two in February 2016.
