Professor Dr. Herman Tournaye (°May 6, 1961, Mechelen Belgium) received his Medical Degree in 1986 from the Brussels Free University. He had his specialty training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from 1986 till 1991. He joined the Brussels Centre of Reproductive Medicine in 1991 where he developed the reproductive andrology clinic. In 1994 he obtained his PhD-degree (promotors Profs. Van Steirteghem and Devroey).

From 2000 he heads the research group "Biology of the Testis" which focuses on spermatogenesis and testicular stem cells.

In 2001 he was appointed Professor at the Medical School of the Brussels Free University. He is in charge of the Andrology Training Centre of the European Academy of Andrology and is clinical tutor for the European Board and College of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology specialty and subspecialty training in reproductive medicine in Brussels.

In 2011 he became head of Department Gynecology-Fertility and director of the Centre for Reproductive Medicine Brussels and coordinator of the undergraduate and postgraduate training in OBGYN.

Per June 1, 2012 he authored 248 peer-reviewed publications listed on Pubmed (47 first author, 31 last author) and his Reuter’s Web of Knowledge 2011 Hirsh-index is 45.

He is past-chairman of the SIG Andrology of ESHRE and the Dutch-Flemish Society for the Study of Fertility. Currently he is president of the Belgian Society for Reproductive Medicine (BSRM). Since 2010 he is board member of the Infertility Guidelines Group of the European Association of Urology.

He is the father of two daughters, ‘Elfi‘ (1992) and ‘Aude’ (1993), and two sons, ‘Pim’ (1996) and ‘Jules’ (2011).
