Maternal Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) mentoring is a Sukshema project intervention developed to improve quality of care in labour, during delivery and in the immediate postpartum period in the Primary Health Centres (PHCs) of Northern Karnataka. MNCH mentoring is provided to the staff in PHCs through a cadre of nurse mentors. As a District Program Specialist, Dr.Shekhaji’s role is to observe the mentoring activities as well as guide and support the MNCH mentors. The above picture is during a visit to a PHC in Gulbarga district where she lead discussions with the staff nurses of the PHC on clinical topics, to bring out their clinical knowledge, skills and competencies.
