I have obtained a Bachelor degree in Health Science (BSc) and a Master degree in Management, Policy Analysis and Entrepreneurship in Health and Life Sciences (MSc) both at the Vrije University in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

One year after graduating I moved to the Caribbean where I started working for the Ministry of Public Health, Social Development and Labour for the Government of Sint Maarten. I started as a project officer for the National HIV Program Management Team, a role I fulfilled for three years. As part of my responsibilities I was the country focal point for two regional projects during this period:

  • ‘Improving access to HIV services for mobile and migrant populations’ GIZ funded project executed in collaboration with PANCAP and IOM. As the overall coordinator for this project I coordinated 4 research projects and a communication campaign for the island.
  • ‘Strengthening the integration of the British and Dutch OCTs in the Regional Response to HIV/AIDS through the Pan Caribbean Partnership Against HIV/AIDS (PANCAP)’ an EU funded project executed in collaboration with PAHO. As part of this project an SRH-KABP (Knowledge, Attitude Perception and Behavior) study among adolescents was conducted for Sint Maarten and the region. I worked very closely with the research team and coordinated the study for the island.

In addition to these regional projects I was the project leader for the development of the first National HIV Workplace policy.

In 2013 I started working as a policy advisor for the Public Health Department where I have a large variety of responsibilities. One of the tasks is the development of the first National Sexual Reproductive Health policy for Sint Maarten in collaboration with UNFPA and local stakeholders.
