Senior Staff Nurse, Central Regional Referral Hospital, Gelephu, Bhutan
I work as a Senior Staff Nurse in the general ward and as a diabetes educator at Central Regional Referral Hospital under the Ministry of Health administration, Thimphu.
I joined this hospital in July 2014 after completing my 2-year bachelor degree in General Nursing and Midwifery from the only health institute in the country, Royal Institute of Health Sciences in Capital city Thimphu. I have also worked as Emergency Obstetrics and Newborn Care (EmONC) focal person in the district hospital for last 6 years.
My additional responsibility as an EmONC focal person has given me lots of ideas on where we lag behind in serving them better. For instance, my area has lots of clients who delivered unplanned babies, where family planning success is actually below normal. Our family planning services still has to pick up its pace, urgently. Likewise, there are lots of mothers still dying of Postpartum Hemorrhage (PPH). I especially want to be able to help in these areas. The knowledge and skills that I will acquire through this course will enhance my capacity to help address these issues.
