Dr A. G. Mairiga graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Jos, Nigeria, in 1989. In 1999, he obtained a master’s degree in Health Planning and Management from the University of Maiduguri, Nigeria. He received his fellowship diploma of the West African College of Surgeons in 2002, and obtained a certificate in Understanding and Managing Reproductive Health form the Institute of Social Sciences, The Hague, the Netherlands, in 2003.

Dr Mairiga is an external examiner in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Bayero University, Kano, and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a visiting consultant at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, Nigeria. He was the head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Maiduguri and a member of the Board of Management, University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital. Dr Mairiga is currently working as a senior lecturer at the University of Maiduguri, and as an honorary consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
