Organisation and Structure
The Geneva Foundation for Medical Education and Research and the Department of Reproductive Health and Research, WHO and the Noncommunicable Disease and Mental Health Cluster, WHO – in collaboration with the Department of Health of the Canton of Geneva, the Faculty of Medicine of Geneva University and the Geneva Medical Association - are accepting applications to the Postgraduate Courses in Epidemiology and Research Methods; Reproductive Medicine and Reproductive Biology/Chronic Disease. The purpose of these courses is to provide postgraduate training in these areas of health, to educate graduates in research methodology and to acquaint trainees with the most recent technological advances in their areas of research.
The courses are structured around a common course in Methodological Issues in
Health Research (2 weeks) covering: Study designs, critical appraisal, screening, research synthesis, strategies for data analysis, exploration of links between reproductive health and chronic disease.
This two-week course is then followed by specialist modules:
Reproductive Medicine and Reproductive Biology (4 weeks): Reproductive Biology, Genetics, Family Planning; Infertility; Gynaecological Endocrinology, Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Gynaecological Cancer, Obstetrics
Chronic Disease (4 weeks): Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases, Substance Abuse, Mental Health, Obesity, Cancer, Integrated NCD Prevention, Health Promotion, Surveillance
The courses are given by lecturers associated to Swiss Medical Institutions such as the Geneva Medical Association and the Geneva Medical Society and by advisers and staff of WHO.
The courses will lead to either:
- a Certificate in Reproductive Medicine and Reproductive Biology issued by the University
- of Geneva, and a Certificate issued by WHO, endorsed by the Geneva Foundation for Medical Education and Research and the Geneva Medical Association.
or
- a Certificate in Chronic Disease issued by WHO, endorsed by the Geneva Foundation for Medical Education and Research and the Geneva Medical Association.
The Certificates can be obtained after 6 weeks intensive training followed by oral and written exams.

Eligibility
Students who want to undertake training in the fields of Research Methodology in Health; Reproductive Medicine and Reproductive Biology/Chronic Disease must fulfil the following requirements:
- have a profound knowledge of English
- have an interest in reproductive health research/research in chronic disease, and have a desire to improve their research skills
For the course in Reproductive Medicine and Reproductive Biology:

Doctor’s degree in Medicine or a degree in Biology
For the course in Chronic Disease:

Advanced degree in Public Health, Medicine or Social Science
Documentation
In order to apply for the courses and be considered by the course organisers, the following documents are required:
- a completed application form which can be obtained at the following site: https://www.gfmer.ch/
- curriculum vitae, 2 photos and a copy of the passport
- a certified copy of the diploma in medicine or biology/public health, medicine or social science, and additional diplomas
- a letter of motivation stating clearly interests and reasons for applying to the courses (one A4 page maximum)
- an official attestation confirming proficiency in the English language
- two letters of reference, preferably one from the candidate's current employer.
- if possible, an introduction by the candidate's Head of Department stating her/his current role and future involvement in the country's National Reproductive Health Programme/National Programme for Chronic Disease
